As acceptance of Massage Therapy continues within our society, blossoming out of the alternative healthcare field and becoming more accepted in the more traditional medical field, massage seems to be evolving into three main branches: Spa Massage, Relaxation Massage & Therapeutic Massage. Click on "Brief History" for even more information!
1. About Therapeutic Massage This form of massage utilizes specific techniques aimed precisely at body "dis-ease". It is designed to complement traditional medicine with both specific and customized protocals, to achieve the best possible state of health for the individual. Modalities such as myofascial release, deep transverse friction, and trigger point therapy are most often requested by those seeking Therapeutic Massage. Common benefits include increased mobility, increased energy, reduced pain, and a general sense of well-being. Most practioners will have additional training to facilitate this.
2. About Relaxation massage Encompassing the traditional "Swedish" massage techniques, this variety of massage therapy is beneficial physiologically as it de-stresses the body, leaving more of the body's energy and lifeforce available for other functions. It's value includes bringing fresh oxygen and nutrients into body tissues, simultaneously removing toxins. This type of massage is usually performed within a quiet, peaceful location by a caring therapist.
3. About Spa Massage This re-invented field has become extremely popular with all ages. No longer viewed strictly as a luxury, it is crossing the socio/economic barriers to become a mainstay in our recreational lifestyles. Both women and men are taking the time to enjoy a day or even just an hour or two's respite from the daily grind with a spa treatment. Techniques range from body masks and specialized soaks to foot scrubs and more. Treatments and specialities vary from place to place, but most clients rave about it all!
